For example, we do not use the article the for non-specific items. There are different kinds of souvenirs and unless you are talking about a certain souvenir (for example, a shell necklace from the Philippines), you cannot say 'the' souvenir.

It's the same with the determiner that. You are talking about a specific country if you use this word. However, since there a lot of countries in the world and you did not give a name, we can use the because we are talking specifically about a kind of place people who buy souvenirs visited.

When talking about amounts you cannot say lot's. An contraction like this means "lot is." So, your sentence is actually like this in its longer form: 'Because they are lot is and lot is of money left.'

I also changed the pronoun they  in the last sentence to make sure that the ideas are cohesive. In the first few sentences, you used "they" whenever you refer to people. Using this word in the last sentence implies that the people who buy souvenirs are the ones who are so pretty and cute, not the souvenirs.
