During Joseon Dynasty, there was king named Sejong. He is of course the most famous and legendary feature in the history of Korea. Not like Unlike other kings and aristocrats during middle age-or Joseon era- he was a sage king, he wrote some books about efficient ways to farm and also medical techniques that subjects can easily use. However, his greatest work isn't aren't the books, water clock, celestial globe or rain gauge, it is a the book called Hunminjeongeum. This book, Hunminjeongeum contains about our own Korean written language. As king Sejong invented Hangeul, the subjects who had trouble with understanding the written languages became literate. Although at the beginning, the aristocrats who were afraid of subjects getting knowledge-power- opposed to him, he released Hunimnjeongeum. Therefore, now we-Koreans- have the lowest number of illiterate people. King Sejong was the best King throughout our whole history.
