I think that it is not ok to lie in any case. The reason is because, regardless he/she lies for reasonable reasons such as for survival, protection, friends, etc, a lie is a lie. It means that we shouldn't lie in any situations.
Also, if we lie, we will be harming someone obviously. Because, if there are benefits for someone, it would be harm for others. For example, Christopher Columbus who lied for his survival harmed some Native Americans. He had to describe his hardship to them. Therefore, a lie which causes harm to others won't be justified and it's not ok.
